What exactly is collagen?

Collagen (collagens) are protein structures and consist mainly of the amino acids glycine, proline and hydroxyproline (1). The main characteristic of collagen is its high elasticity, which makes it an important component of bones, joints, skin, hair and nails (2). Collagens are the most abundant proteins in the human body, accounting for 30% of the total.

With the help of vitamin C, the body continuously produces collagen. However, this production decreases with age: already from the age of 25 it decreases by about 1% per year (3). This soon affects the body and the collagen skin begins to form wrinkles.

Production of collagen

Our organic collagen is produced in a purely thermal and mechanical process. This involves boiling pasture-raised beef bones in water for 20 hours, dehydrating the resulting broth and grinding it into a powder.

We are proud to be the first in the market to go this route for you. As you can imagine, the production is very complex, hence the slightly higher price.

The high-quality collagen hydrolysate in our Beauty Collagen, on the other hand, is obtained enzymatically. Since enzymes cannot be controlled, an organic seal is unfortunately not possible here. We also use the highest quality raw materials from Germany for this product. As the amino acid chains in the peptides are split particularly widely, a high bioavailability can be achieved and a very good solubility in all liquids.

How quickly does the collagen work?

Collagen powder

With our collagen powder (collagen hydrolysate) you give your body back missing collagen in a natural way.

The most commonly offered collagen powder consists of collagen hydrolysate. 'Hydrolysate' means that the amino acid chains of collagen have been broken down into smaller sections by an enzymatic process. This fragmentation allows collagen powder to be dissolved in any drinks and soups. Natural organic collagen, on the other hand, is extracted from bone broth. In this process, bone broth is boiled for 20 hours and then dehydrated and ground into a powder.

JARMINO organic collagen is the first organic collagen powder on the market in Germany.

Many of our customers swear by the positive effect of our powders on the appearance of the skin. They also praise the strength of hair and nails. This is a benefit that can be achieved through targeted intake. Taking collagen

Take collagen

If you want to take collagen, we recommend 5g to 10g (grams) per day of collagen per day. This ensures that enough collagen reaches the intestines. There it can help protect the intestinal wall so that toxins and bacteria cannot escape (leaky gut).

Studies have shown that taking it can also help with joint problems. Endurance athletes or people who exercise a lot should therefore not do without collagen. There is no danger of overdosing when taking collagen.

External application, such as with creams, on the other hand, is less effective because the body cannot absorb the important amino acids through the skin.

Remember: collagen can only work if it is taken regularly.

For firmer skin

Collagen is a major component of our skin and is made up of different types of collagen. If the skin contains too little collagen, it loses its elasticity and wrinkles appear.

There are at least 15 different types of collagen (6). Particularly important are:

Type I: 90% of the collagens in the human body belong to this type. Type I collagen is found, for example, in the skin, bones, tendons, connective tissue and teeth.

Type II is found mainly in the joints.

Type III supports the structure of muscles, organs and arteries.

Type IV is found in the sub-layers of the skin.

Studies have shown that collagen can help reduce wrinkles and dryness, slowing down ageing (2, 3).In one study, women took 2.5-5 g of collagen for 8 weeks. Compared to women who did not take collagen, skin dryness decreased significantly over time and skin elasticity increased significantly (2).

Another study showed that women who drank collagen powder daily for 12 weeks had increased skin hydration and a significant reduction in wrinkle depth compared to a control group (4).

Researchers concluded that the effect of collagen supplementation is to stimulate the body's collagen production (1).

It can also promote the production of elastin and fibrillin proteins, which help to structure the skin (5).
